This blog serves as a record of my triumphs, failures, and reflections. Though the prospect of finding new friends and community in Arizona is exciting, I happily remember that I am the product of so much love from my family in Michigan and from friends now spread literally nation- and worldwide in the post-college diaspora. One worry is that as I settle into a professional schedule there will not be enough time to write, email, or converse with everyone I wish to keep in contact with. Hopefully, this blog will be one form of communication free from the limitations of schedules and time zones.
The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles but to irrigate deserts. The right defence against false sentiments is to inculcate just sentiments. By starving the sensibility of our pupils we only make them easier prey to the propagandist when he comes. For famished nature will be avenged and a hard heart is no infallible protection against a soft head. ― C.S. Lewis, The Abolition of Man
